St. Joseph city officials will close Frederick Avenue, between 15th Street and 17th Street/Kemper Street, beginning Wednesday morning to work on underground water lines.

Crews hired by Missouri American have been replacing the water line under that section of Frederick for several weeks. Lanes have been narrowed during the work. A full shutdown of Frederick is now needed.

The city hopes to re-open Frederick late Friday afternoon.

Additional closures of Frederick during the week of September 22nd are anticipated to complete the work.

While Frederick is shut down, the following detours will be in place:

•           Eastbound traffic will detour south at 15th Street, turning east on Buchanan Avenue before turning north on Kemper Street and returning to Frederick.

•           Westbound traffic will detour south at Kemper Street, turning west on Buchanan Avenue before turning north on 15th Street and returning to Frederick.

Drivers are asked to find alternate routes to their destinations, if possible. All work is weather permitting.
