This Saturday, residents can support the arts in St. Joseph in a fun way with music, art, food, and beer during the annual Beer Walk for the Arts.
The event, hosted by the Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph, is on Saturday from 2 to 5pm. All money raised during the event goes directly to support the Arts Fund.
Director of Strategic Communications Brooke McBride says there are seven different arts programs the Art Fund helps support
“There’s Allied Arts Council, Creative Arts Productions, Performing Arts Association, Robidoux Resident Theatre, St. Joseph Symphony, St. Joseph Community Chorus, and St. Joseph Youth Chorale, so if you look at all of those names that covers a lot of different things that go on in this community,” McBride says on the KFEQmunnity show. “And our goal is always to make the arts accessible for all.”
McBride ways whether someone wants to sing in a chorus, or if someone has a child, they want to get into an acting summer camp, the Arts Fund helps to provide and make those services possible.
This year’s Beer Walk for the Arts will venture to a new area of town for the event. Executive Director Jessica Agnew says this year’s event will highlight Ashland Court and Fairleigh Terrace.
“There’s some beautiful homes, there’s some homes in that area that were built in I believe 1919, and so it’s very old, there’s some historic nature to it,” Agnew explains. “And what’s really cool is that I’ve been working with a wonderful lady who was the neighborhood association president for like 25 years or so, her knowledge is just amazing.”
“And she’s put together some historical signs and things to put along the path, so you’re getting to learn a lot about the history of St. Joe, so it’s not just about beer, it’s not just about the food, although all of that’s going to be fantastic, but it’s also about connecting to the art and the architecture.”
Along the beer, from local breweries, and food, from local restaurants, there will be art and music, which Agnew says is also all local talent
“Candace Castle is one of them, and Tad Hopkins is playing his guitar and singing beautifully for it, and so it’s really neat because you get to see them kind of in action and you have this little private concert if you will for those that are singing,” Agnew says. “And then you kind of get to be up close and see artists as they’re painting and drawing, and the pyro group coming and doing their fire things and getting to see that is just really cool.”
Tickets for the Beer Walk can be purchased by visiting the Allied Arts Councils website. A beer buddy special can also be purchased, prior to the event. Tickets can also be purchased at the walk, at a slightly higher price.
The event will run from 2 to 5pm, with a walkable route so attendees should be able to hit every house along the walk during the time.
