ANDREW COUNTY —Avenue City School was placed in a brief soft lockdown Thursday as a precaution while the School Resource Officer investigated a reported threat, according to a media release from the Andrew County Sheriff’s office.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the situation stemmed from an ongoing issue involving middle school students making harassing phone calls and pranks to an individual dating back to the beginning of 2026. There was no active threat to students or staff.

“We want to remind parents and guardians to please speak with your children about appropriate phone use and online behavior. What may seem like a harmless prank can quickly escalate into serious consequences.”

“This incident highlights the importance of having School Resource Officers in our schools, ensuring the safety and security of both students and staff through quick response and thorough investigation.”
