Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announced that $18.9 million will be distributed to 53 airports in the state for improvements and new construction projects. The funding, which includes local matches, will total $95 million and aims to enhance the state’s aviation network. The Kansas Department of Transportation’s aviation division received 105 applications seeking around $39 million for the Kansas Airport Improvement Program grants. Projects selected will focus on pavement maintenance, safety enhancements, and air ambulance access improvements to benefit the state’s economy and emergency services. The funding will support planning, construction, and rehabilitation of public-use general aviation airports in Kansas, with a focus on safety and preservation for future transportation needs.
