Governor Jim Pillen vetoed LB 1256, a bill that aimed to include snow and ice removal and flood management as emergency management functions in state law. Pillen objected to the bill’s provisions that would allow local governments to reclassify services and exceed property tax caps for those purposes. The estimated cost of these allowances was $40 million annually. State senators would need 30 votes to override the veto before the end of the Nebraska Legislative session on Friday.
