Former tribal employee in Kansas pleads guilty to misusing federal grant money intended for a health program. Matthew Waits of Topeka admitted to using over $5,000 in grant funds to purchase sports memorabilia instead of supporting the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation’s Diabetes Prevention Program. The money was meant to combat diabetes but was used for Waits’ collectibles business. Waits is set to be sentenced on July 22nd.
