The St. Joseph School District’s Board of Education is considering a resolution to support local control and strengthen Missouri public education amid discussions of state legislation that could impact school funding and oversight. The proposed resolution addresses bills such as HB 2668, HB 1998, HB 2697, HB 2710, and Executive Order 26-01. These bills cover topics ranging from property tax calculation changes to creating a statewide accountability system for schools. Governor Mike Kehoe has also directed the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop a similar accountability system through Executive Order 26-01. Additionally, there are proposals to eliminate Missouri’s individual income tax, including HJR 173.
