The U.S. Department of Defense is ending Senior Service College Fellowship programs at elite institutions and considering the University of Nebraska as a potential new partner for military education programs. The decision, outlined in a memo signed by Sec. Pete Hegseth, aims to align senior military officer education with the National Defense Strategy and American values. The memo lists 93 fellowships at 22 institutions that will be discontinued, including Harvard, Brown, Columbia, and Yale. The University of Nebraska is among the 15 potential new partner institutions that meet specific criteria for intellectual freedom and alignment with DOD values. The policy will take effect in the 2026-2027 academic year.
