Missouri lawmakers are considering a bill, HB 2743, that would change the state’s vehicle inspection program to only require inspections for vehicles made before 2013 or with over 150,000 miles.
Currently, vehicles older than ten years or with over 150,000 miles must undergo a safety inspection every two years at a cost of $12. Supporters argue that the current requirements pose challenges for rural residents, while opponents fear that reducing inspections could lead to more fatal accidents.
The bill has passed the House Government Efficiency Committee and will move to the House floor for further debate.
